Arranging a Funeral

Arranging a funeral can be overwhelming, there are many details you need to remember and organise. Rowland Brothers Funeral Directors have been arranging funerals for over 150 years and so we are able to help ensure every aspect of the ceremony is taken care of. When arranging a funeral in Croydon, Rowland Brothers funeral directors will guide you every step of the way. We are passionate about offering bereavement support, care and reassurance to families, at a time when you need it most.

There are six steps for arranging a funeral:

When a Death Occurs

Getting a medical certificate of cause of death is the first step to take when a death occurs. Once this certificate has been issued by a doctor you can get in contact with Rowland Brothers, and arrange the removal of the deceased to our chapel of rest. Our services include the transportation and accommodation of your loved one in our chapel of rest, where we will ensure that they are kept securely for you to visit, or until funeral arrangements have been made. If you want to know more about what to do in this first stage, visit our When a Death Occurs page:

Register the Death

All deaths in the UK must be registered in order to receive a death certificate. You can’t finalise the date for the funeral until the death has been registered. If the death has to be reported to the coroner, the date when the funeral can be held will be affected. Registering a death is a simple process we can help you with to ensure you are comfortable with the official documentation, prior to organising the funeral. If you aren’t sure how to register a death, visit our Register a Death page:

Arranging the Funeral

A funeral can involve either burial or cremation and in some instances repatriation. You can personalise it as much as you wish. In some cases, the deceased may have planned their own funeral in advance. The funeral arrangements we are able to assist with and organise can be tailored to your needs, in order to meet the traditional, bespoke or religious requirements you have. Our expertise in arranging a wide variety of funerals helps us ensure our clients get the ceremony they want. You can see our Funeral Arrangements page for more information on burial or cremation and guidance on what to do:

Planning for the Day

Arranging a funeral requires planning many finer details and we can help you with all these decisions. We provide a variety of extra services to add the finishing touches to the day, including unique and personalised features that capture the personality of your loved one, like specialise hearses and sea burials. For further information on details for the service visit our Planning for the Day page:

Paying for the Funeral

A large amount of UK adults have not even considered their funeral and so you may not be aware of the type of expenses required when arranging a ceremony. Funerals can come with a surprising amount of expense and without any pre-paid funeral plans; you may face paying for it yourself. Rowland Brothers will always give you a written breakdown of all costs so you know what you’re paying for. We are able to support you and organise the funeral you require, while helping to meet your budget.
