Yesterday I dotted the "i's" and crossed the "t's" on the Funeral Arrangements and Cremation of my late wife, Susan Foster.
I could not let today pass without paying a massive compliment to your team, most especially Charlee at Plough Lane. My wife passed on 11th November and that evening I emailed Rowland Brothers and received a prompt response, very first thing on 12th regarding the collection of my wife from our house.
That was just the start of an excellence of service by Charlee - your team arrived and dealt with my wife with care and sympathy and right through to today, your team has made this whole process much less stressful than it could have been.
Whilst I know it was a team effort from beginning to end, the gentle and empathetic guiding hand of Charlee has been a revelation in customer care and service.
I have expressed my thanks directly to her but please understand that Charlee is a star!

From the moment I contacted Rowland Brothers to ask them to arrange the funeral of my aunt I found them to be compassionate professional and patient. Nothing was too much bother for them. Both Jan and Simon in the Purley office were perfect communicators and handled the whole process of dealing with the crematorium, the florists and the vicar perfectly. Rowland Brothers in West Wickham have managed all aspects of my mum’s funeral arrangements excellently and sympathetically. Tracy in particular worked tirelessly to make sure the family’s wishes were followed, whilst also offering very helpful advice and suggestions when required. Nothing was too much trouble and the funeral took place just as we wanted. I couldn’t have asked for more. Even after the funeral Tracy has continued to follow up to ensure the remaining arrangements following the cremation are completed without any issues. I cannot recommend Rowland Brothers highly enough. I should have left this review before now as my Mum passed away last December. From the moment I made the call to the office then had my first meeting with Sarah I just knew I was in the right place and knew my Mum would be treated with respect and dignity and her send of would be a special one and it was.
I was able to help dress my Mum and style her hair. Before dressing she was washed and her hair washed - they even took the time to use a shampoo for afro hair. Just one of so many examples of how every aspect was dealt with sensitivity, care, empathy and professionalism and I will always be so grateful for this. I engaged Rowland Brothers in the commissioning of my Mother’s memorial. What I required was clarity, accountability, and confirmation of placement. What I received instead was silence, avoidance, and refusal to confirm even the most basic responsibility — the appointment of the Stonemason.
Despite repeated polite and literate emails, including explicit requests for confirmation, Rowland Brothers Ltd failed to respond. Their silence created fracture in the process, left me exposed, and forced other parties to withdraw. This avoidance undermined the memorial project and caused unnecessary distress.
A memorial is not a casual transaction — it is sacred authorship. Rowland Brothers Ltd did not honour that responsibility. Their failure to provide clarity or confirmation shows a lack of professionalism and respect.
⭐ A star has had to be placed merely to ensure that this review is posted, though no stars are applicable. The only star is my Mother, Toni — who has not received her authored memorial from her Daughter, known as Pina, who loves her always and forever, and who has spent over three years in her endeavours to ensure a memorial is crafted for her, my Mum, Toni. She holds all the pieces, and the most important piece is her Mother’s heart and soul. To my Mum, Toni. May my gift of £5k offline to St Christopher’s bring peace to others.
Verdict: I cannot recommend Rowland Brothers. Their silence and avoidance damaged the process and betrayed trust.

A memorial is not a transaction. It is sacred authorship. My repeated requests for clarity were met with silence, which fractured the process and forced others to withdraw. To suggest I left others with bills is deflection. A contract cannot be signed until CAD drawings are finalised. I never abandoned responsibility.
You even write “Manging Director” in your own title — that lack of care mirrors the lack of care shown in handling my Mother’s memorial. Precision matters. My Mother deserved precision.

We received excellent care throughout the process of my mother’s death and funeral and I’m more than happy to recommend the team at Rowlands in West Wickham.
We had wished to use their previous incarnation, Killicks as we did for my father in 2014 and were delighted to find that Peter’s son is still heavily involved in this team. From start to finish everyone at rowlands really helped us as a family deal with such a painful experience. Sarah our funeral arranger could not have done any more if she tried, from our first meeting she made us feel all at ease and made the process of planning more bearable. Upon making the decision to go with Rowland Brothers in West Wickham, we originally met Simon (from the Purley branch) who we felt was really genuine, extremely sensitive and incredibly helpful in the early days whilst we tried to come to terms with the loss of our mother. Rowlands handled my partners funeral perfectly and I have no negative comments to make at all. The whole procedure from start to finish could not be faulted. A fantastic staff lady named Carly was absolutely brilliant and couldn't do more to fulfil our wishes before and on the day. The priest Sam Gilmore was top notch as were all the car staff. Poor Communication. As a family, we were not kept informed about the funeral planning process. Calls and queries were not returned. There appeared to be a lack of transparency about costs and services.
Insensitive Behavior. The arranger was very pushy and aggressive when selling us services and products. Not any staff member showed empathy or compassion during our different time. We were asked to pay for unnecessary services and products. The Funeral Director on the day was very pushy with time as if we were an inconvenience for him and his colleagues. Maybe he wanted to finish on time or early. The coffin was damaged.

Visited my father this morning to say a final goodbye. It said that the room he was in was within the quiet area. It was anything but that. Whether there was building work going on, I don't know, but loud voices, banging and loud music were not acceptable. I would have complained at the premises but my dad's partner insisted I didn't. More consideration should be shown in such circumstances.

Rowland Brothers didn’t have this car, but they searched around and kindly found one in Shropshire to grant my dad’s final journey.
They arrived on time, the cars and team were immaculate. They allowed us to touch the coffin and check everything was ok. The cars were very comfortable and they took a route and stopped out side my parents 47 years.

I was in contact with Rowlands Croydon recently and was very impressed by them. Funerals are always difficult, but they always provide a fitting service, I have often seen them lead processions in West Norwood.
I phoned them to see ifI could deliver a wreath and they said they would take it and recommended a local florist, who were also fantastic. I phoned their parlour in Croydon to see if they had received the wreath sent, and the perosn I spoke to on the phone kindly went to check, and verified it had been received. I originally left a two star review for this organisation based on the fact they made a number of very basic, serious errors (for example - wrong death of death on coffin, wrong cause of death information given to coroner and various other issues which left me with very little confidence in them). Following a meeting with them I am satisfied they have taken my concerns seriously and put in place training and procedures to ensure no other customer suffers the same problems. Every single person who worked on my mums funeral went above and beyond to make the whole experience as stress free and easy as possible (especially Carly and Adam). From the moment we walked through the door in the Warlingham until the day of the funeral, the service we received from RB was impeccable. Courtney and Maya were outstanding throughout, they made everything hassle free for us and I can't thank them enough. I think it takes a special person who was able when you met the three of us for the first time we probably looked like rabbits in headlights (we were trying to process the sudden death of the mum and start to try to organise a funeral we luckily haven’t done before) to sit us down calmly sensitively and honestly starting to plan mum’s funeral and explaining the process even without a death certificate.
The person that goes that extra mile by contacting the coroner’s office as we hadn’t heard from him if or not a postmortem had been done; even being on the phone to them for over 40 minutes on hold.
Being flexible to see us when we were in West Wickham, and we popped in.
Making sure we were okay, keeping us on track and reminding me for items I had forgot to give you, like the music for the crematorium.
Finding the best version of one of the songs we forgot to put the artist we wanted to play at the crematorium.
When there are so many different areas of the funeral we were organising and liaising with different people, having you arranging the funeral meant it was one less thing to worry about.

Sorry again for not being able to take mum coffin into the church, I am recovering from a herniated disc in my lower back it just said no; luckily, I was able to do it at the crematorium. Can you thank the member of your team that was looking after me as we were going in.

Pretty tight. The building was quiet and nice, the staff were pleasant and friendly. They explained the entire process from start to finish with clarity and provided a straightforward arrangement. Our care from Charlee from the beginning was outstanding - we went in without an appointment and were looked after with so much care and attention. This never changed and I doubt we would have received this from any other company. She truly is empathetic, kind and knowledgeable. The door was always open for us and I feel like we have made a friend for life. She looked after our mum in some of her darkest times and made the process much easier for us all - We truly thank her for that. We couldn't have done it without her!

I cancelled my plans with a different director who could not come close to the level service Charlee and the team provided.
I planned my dad's funeral from over 300 miles away and Charlee had everything arranged within one day going above and beyond to make a horrible process bearable.
I was met on the day at the church by John who had called the day before to introduce himself and reassure me the day would go smoothly exactly as we expected and that's exactly what they delivered.

We were delighted with the way that everything went so smoothly before and during the funeral. David in the Purley office made the planning simple and facilitated all of the elements with great communication. Peter and his team were very professional and provided a calming presence during the funeral. Mike (the celebrant) made the service flow with compassion and obvious expertise. Many of the attendees have mentioned what a success it was and how it gave Dad a beautiful send off.

When I die I would like Rowlands to handle my funeral and I’m not even local! Everything was done with the utmost care and understanding. Jan and Scott make the most wonderful team. Nothing was too much trouble, from being able to attend the chapel of rest out of hours to being able to sit in the hearse and even carry the coffin. To be offered such warmth at such a difficult time was a kindness I’ll not forget. Whilst I’ve luckily only had one other experience of funeral homes this surpassed my expectations from the moment I called to make enquiries. Jan was so helpful and even told me that should I decide to go elsewhere to just call her back if any advice was needed. You just don’t get customer service on that level these days. The chapel is restful and the staff couldn’t be more helpful and accommodating even down to introducing me to Scott who was to be in charge on the day of the funeral so that there was a feeling of continuity. Thank you both so very much.

I lost my amazing husband suddenly and jan and the team at purley were amazing, they took great care of me and him and I was able to sit with him for the last two days before the funeral which was so important for me and they kept me going in tea. All my wishes for his funeral were carried out beautifully and the day although overwhelming with over 170 people on a very hot day he got the send off he would have been so proud of .
