I cannot fault the service provided by Rowland Brothers at Coulsdon, Judi and all involved were very compassionate, helpful and professional during the whole process of arranging my wife’s funeral. The funeral service on the day was exactly as my wife would have wanted, she could not have had a better send off. Thank you Judi for making the process less stressful.

From the moment we walked through the door in the Warlingham until the day of the funeral, the service we received from RB was impeccable. Courtney and Maya were outstanding throughout, they made everything hassle free for us and I can't thank them enough. On the day of the funeral, Joe and his team were also ever so caring, patient and helpful, again making everything run smoothly on the day. The added touch of the personalised folder at the end which contained the funeral service booklet and pockets for messages, came as a surprise and shows how thoughtful RB are. Additionally the printed framed photo for my husband was also a great touch and added to the overall experience. Thank you to everyone at RB for an amazing service and I will surely be recommending you to others. Absolute first class service!

Found the staff very kind and helpful. Listened to my wishes and made sure that I had help with the details. I didn't feel rushed more a warm hug at a very difficult time. The organisation was second to none.

Very disappointed. Basic errors made - wrong date of death on coffin, wrong cause of death information given to coroner, wrong information given about availability of documentation. Despite multiple requests for a non religious funeral, a christian cross was left in the crematorium. I cannot recommend this organisation at all. Made a very stressful time even worse.

I think it takes a special person who was able when you met the three of us for the first time we probably looked like rabbits in headlights (we were trying to process the sudden death of the mum and start to try to organise a funeral we luckily haven’t done before) to sit us down calmly sensitively and honestly starting to plan mum’s funeral and explaining the process even without a death certificate.

The person that goes that extra mile by contacting the coroner’s office as we hadn’t heard from him if or not a postmortem had been done; even being on the phone to them for over 40 minutes on hold.

Being flexible to see us when we were in West Wickham, and we popped in.

Making sure we were okay, keeping us on track and reminding me for items I had forgot to give you, like the music for the crematorium.

Finding the best version of one of the songs we forgot to put the artist we wanted to play at the crematorium.

When there are so many different areas of the funeral we were organising and liaising with different people, having you arranging the funeral meant it was one less thing to worry about.

Sorry for the delay in writing to you as you could imagine I took some time out with my wife Fi before we travelled back to France.

Thank you for your professionalism, calmness, patience, problem solving on the day as well as during the telephone conversation the night before which helped to calm my nerves.

Mum would have been happy and at piece that you were looking after her on her final journey. With the same professionalism as your dad did with my dad’s funeral in November 2018.

Sorry again for not being able to take mum coffin into the church, I am recovering from a herniated disc in my lower back it just said no; luckily, I was able to do it at the crematorium. Can you thank the member of your team that was looking after me as we were going in.

Rowland Brothers are without a doubt the best care providers for your deceased relative.
They helped us to provide my Father with a dignified and very special send off. There attention to even some of the smalist details allowed us to lay my father to rest with such great respect for the man he was. The team at the office really emphathized and prepared us well for every scenario. The team that attended the funeral wear exemplary. As much as it was a solom occasion. They kept things light and flowing with the utmost decency and respect. Although this is my first rodio with Rowland Brothers because the help us send off our Grandaunt years ago. They are definitely my go to funeral director's and I would highly recommend them to all my family and friends in the time's of bereavement.

Wow! Rowland brothers. I’m actually lost for words because your service is impeccable. Grief is so hard to navigate and despite still feeling sadness, one thing that has brought so much relief and peace is the service we have received from you. On 5/03/2025 I laid my dad to rest and Rowland Brothers from start to finish were so considerate and helpful. We had some financial difficulties and they did what they could to ensure my father still got the burial he deserved. There really are no words to express the gratitude we feel to Rowland Brothers in particular David Webb who worked with us for weeks to arrange my dad’s funeral, the nicest most kindest man I’ve met. The orders of service were just as we’d hoped and even when we would visit dad at the funeral directors he was placed in the most beautiful chapel. I also want to acknowledge Adam and the guys who worked with him on the day of dad’s burial. Very empathetic and Adam spoke with the softest voice which shows he understood that what we were going through was hard. The moment we booked the appointment all the way through to the end of the funeral, the staff were professional and caring. We had used Rowland brothers ten years previously for my Dads funeral and I’m pleased to say that their standards remain as high as ever. Pretty tight. The building was quiet and nice, the staff were pleasant and friendly. They explained the entire process from start to finish with clarity and provided a straightforward arrangement. No stress. Got the job done. They also provide support for probate after the funeral which is good too.

After my mother's recent death, Rowlands transported her body from her flat to their premises, and worked with me to arrange and conduct her funeral. All involved acted with thoughtfulness, care and sensitivity at all stages.

The team who transported my mother's body clearly and helpfully explained in advance what would be involved, made sure I was happy with that before doing anything, checked the situation in my mother's flat before starting work, and ensured everything in the flat was left neat and in good order when they departed. They showed great sensitivity and patience when some people arrived part-way through, wanting to pay their last respects, giving them time and privacy to do so. All this took the stress out of this inevitably emotional occasion, and both I and others present were struck by the dignity and respect with which it was all done.

The funeral arranger and the team on the day of the funeral also showed professionalism, understanding and helpfulness throughout, both in person and in correspondence. They explained everything carefully, always made sure we understood what options there were, asked what we wanted without any pressure to choose one course over another, and ensured we knew exactly what would happen and when, and the team at the funeral were dignified and caring. This all made both the funeral and the period before and after it, as easy to cope with as possible.

I am happy to recommend Rowlands to others.

I cancelled my plans with a different director who could not come close to the level service Charlee and the team provided.

I planned my dad's funeral from over 300 miles away and Charlee had everything arranged within one day going above and beyond to make a horrible process bearable.

We were delighted with the way that everything went so smoothly before and during the funeral. David in the Purley office made the planning simple and facilitated all of the elements with great communication. This relates to August 2022. They refused to release body to another funeral director till I had paid, among many other serious faults.

The communication, especially from the "Senior International Co-ordinator" was poor, downright brusque and at times came across as rude, and I, the NoK and their customer, was only informed AFTER important decisions had been made. This included failing to inform me that embalming had not been done and booking the funeral date with the church without consulting me first.

However, neither was I happy with communications from the more senior staff, at a very painful time. They completely supported and upheld the comments and actions of their Senior International Co-ordinator.

When I decided enough was enough and I was switching to another funeral director, I was informed by Kris that they would only release my relative's body to the second funeral director (who was collecting my relative's body from their premises) once their invoice had been settled... NOT ONLY IS THIS IMMORAL, I HAVE SINCE LEARNED IT IS UNLAWFUL.

Luckily, the second funeral director, Slater's International, couldn't have been more different and was respectful, courteous, empathetic and kept me informed all the way. I only wish I had instructed them from the start.

Up until this point, my family had always used Rowland Brothers - never, ever again!

ANSWERING ROWLAND BROTHERS' RESPONSE

I simply UPDATED the review four days ago, after I just happened to discover it's unlawful for an undertaker to hold a body subject to fees, but I originally left the review around September 2023, a little over a year after the events referred to and was careful to make that clear from the start. I was getting over a major bereavement and was still traumatized, hence the delayed review originally. I also find it odd that RB did not respond when I first published the review.

When you find yourself needing to arrange a funeral, you ask for recommendations. In 2019, I was recommended to use Rowland Brothers in Old Coulsdon for my Dad, and I couldn't fault them. So, when I had the sad job of arranging my dear Mum's funeral, I didn't hesitate to go to Rowland's again. Mum's funeral was yesterday, and the staff from Judi in the branch to John and his colleagues on the day were so lovely and reassuring. You claim to be open 24 hours not true
I called your customer service to arrange a moment with my granddaughter and was informed that I would be able to see her the following day at 12.00
But I would have to wait for the directors to call me back to confirm
I called your customer care team @ 4.00pm and 8.00pm asking why I have not received any call I was informed that the directors were on a jolly
Next day I went to the funeral shop anything was locked up no one was a round I called your customer service who kept saying they are supporting us that is no longer a service I would use again you are not supporting any one except your own pocket
On the door you claimed to open 8-5 then I am told it is actually 9- 4

When I die I would like Rowlands to handle my funeral and I’m not even local! Everything was done with the utmost care and understanding. Jan and Scott make the most wonderful team. Nothing was too much trouble, from being able to attend the chapel of rest out of hours to being able to sit in the hearse and even carry the coffin. To be offered such warmth at such a difficult time was a kindness I’ll not forget. Whilst I’ve luckily only had one other experience of funeral homes this surpassed my expectations from the moment I called to make enquiries. Jan was so helpful and even told me that should I decide to go elsewhere to just call her back if any advice was needed. You just don’t get customer service on that level these days. The chapel is restful and the staff couldn’t be more helpful and accommodating even down to introducing me to Scott who was to be in charge on the day of the funeral so that there was a feeling of continuity. However, sadly only half the finger print was taken, on-top of this - it took several weeks of chasing to obtain this.
