Reverend Alan Bowley was a man of extraordinary dedication and character, whose life left an indelible mark on all who knew him. A National Service veteran of the Royal Air Force and a reservist with the Royal Engineers, he served his country with pride and distinction for over 25 years. His deep connection to the armed forces continued as he became the reverend for the Royal Air Force National Service Association, offering spiritual guidance and support to his fellow veterans.
Rev. Bowley’s funeral was a profound testament to the impact he had on so many lives. Over 300 mourners gathered to pay their respects, including a large number of clergy, reflecting the breadth of his influence. A veteran’s guard of honour, a bugler from the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, and two standard bearers added a solemn and dignified tribute to the occasion.
Known for his towering physical presence and an even larger personality, Rev. Bowley was a beloved figure in the community. He was a regular officiant for Colin Fisher Funeral Services, bringing comfort and compassion to countless families. On one occasion, he expressed his desire for his own funeral to be as meaningful and comprehensive as possible, a wish that was honoured with heartfelt dedication.
